Although the details are still entirely speculative, some basic expectations are likely to be met: body-on-frame structures, a choice of four-cylinder gas or V-6 or turbocharged gas engines, and meticulous work to position around gladiator space on the market.

That last element may be the hardest part of the Dakota development since Fiat Chrysler Automobiles doesn’t want its two most profitable brands to step on each other’s toes.

Given Jeep’s position as the off-roadies brand in the FCA family, Ram should push the Dakota in a more realistic, everyday way using most of the pickups actually laid out —think of something more along the lines of the Honda Ridgeline, minus the unibody construction and car-like driving attitude.

FCA CEO Mike Manley has stated Gladiator and Dakota will have very different missions. To that end, ram also tends to offer single and quad cabins and short and long boxes, where Jeeps are only available with four full doors and short beds.

Those with fond memories of the Dodge Dakota pickup that disappeared in 2011 will be pleased to hear that Ram is planning a new mid-size pickup truck that could resurrect the Dakota sign for 2023. The resurrected Dakota will also compete against the recently revived Ford Ranger as well as mid-size alternatives that include the Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon, and Toyota Tacoma.

Dodge Dakota Features

Inspired by the larger 1500 RAM, this quad-cab study has a complete muscular appearance without passing through the top. The frontal style features a daring trapezoidal chrome grille flanked by LED headlights, color-coded bottom bumpers, and crane recovery points.

The side view reveals an industry-inspired approach with elements such as clamps on pillar b trim and features a strained sheet metal surface on doors and fenders. with short bed settings sport vertical ‘wedge-shaped’ LED taillights and 1500s RAM boxes for added storage and comfort.

Threading needles with the Dakota gets harder when you consider the Ram Classic, a previous generation marque pickup still sold alongside the current Ram 1500. after the Dakota launch and has just been updated to include a special edition Warlock model.

The interior of an old truck has never been a bastion of exceptional design, quality, and technology – yet that’s all changed with many jumping out of their luxury sedans into full & full-sized pickups. And if there’s one new Dakota to emulate, the RAM 1500 will be at the top with a large 12″ touchscreen interface and premium finishing.

Look forward to plenty of space for all residents with internal dimensions that lead to Colorado and the best Gladiators. Essential amenities can include items such as digital instrument clusters, rear-seat storage, Harmon Kardon audio, panoramic sunroof, WiFi connectivity, heated/cold seating, and a complete suite of driver assistance functions.

2023 Dodge Dakota Engine

No matter if the Dakota is a version of the Ram 1500 or a re-designed Gladiator, the choice of engine options is fairly easy. While there is almost no possibility that the V-8 is in the cards, the 3.6-liter V-6 used throughout Fiat Chrysler’s lineup is a sure bet.

It will probably be paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and rear drive and all wheels. Another potential engine option is the newly introduced 3.0-liter diesel V-6, which produces 260 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque.

Dakota has an off-road-oriented model to challenge similar offers from its mid-size rivals. We can imagine the Rebel trim level which has a rough appearance, beefier suspension, underbody skid plates, and knobbier tires.

Dakota had to ride on a short version of the 1500s chassis or Jeep Gladiator platform. In any case, the power will likely come from the 3.6-liter V6 paired with the 48V eTorque light hybrid system that produces 305 hp north.

Dodge Dakota Rivals

The New Dakota will be a late arrival to a revived pickup party already occupied by offerings such as Ford’s Ranger, Chevrolet Colorado/GMC Canyon, Toyota Tacoma, Jeep Gladiator, Nissan Frontier, and Honda’s Ridgeline.

Dodge Dakota Towing Capacity

Based on gladiator towing and payload ratings, the Dakota can pull up to 7650 pounds and carry up to 1600 pounds in its cargo bed. This maximum is likely to change when the company announces specific details, but mid-size Ram ratings should revolve around those numbers.

Dodge Dakota Release Date and Price

Reports suggest it could also be built for the right-hand-drive market, offering crew cabins and quad cabin variants, plus an off-road-inspired version of the Rebel. The official disclosure date has not been confirmed; however, it is likely to be next year at the earliest.
