Next-Gen 2024 Dodge Durango Rumored To Be Developed With Jeep Wagoneer

2024 Dodge Durango Rumored To Be Developed With Jeep Wagoneer

2024 Dodge Durango – The redesigned Durango is paired with a body-on-frame Jeep Wagoneer instead of a unibody Grand Cherokee. It is reportedly due at the end of 2023, meaning arrival for the 2024 model year.

The Jefferson North Assembly plant in Detroit, Michigan, where Durango and the Grand Cherokee were built, has struggled to meet grand Cherokee demand, even with the adjacent Detroit Assembly Complex plant producing the Grand Cherokee.

Moving Durango production to the Warren Truck Assembly plant in Warren, Michigan, where Wagoneer was built, would free up capacity back in Detroit.

There will also be some free capacity at Warren, with the Ram 1500 Classic (previous generation 1500) expected to be discontinued in the coming years.

With wagoneer base prices starting at about $60,000, there’s room for more affordable full-size SUVs to compete with the Chevrolet Tahoe, Ford Expedition, and Toyota Sequoia, all of which start close to $50,000. That’s where the redesigned Durango can come in.

Dodge also plans to add a second high-riding model to its lineup. Next year’s brand will add plug-in hybrid models expected to be a compact crossover coupled with the upcoming Alfa Romeo Tonale. The Hornet’s name for Dodge has been speculated.

The current generation of Durango has been in production since the 2011 model year. That may seem like a long time for vehicles to sell in today’s ever-changing market, but Dodge keeps updating its Durango every few years. Various updates have made Durango currently a product that is much in demand.

When it launched in 2010, the 2011 Dodge Durango was nothing more than a more extended wheelbase version of the Jeep® Grand Cherokee (WK2) that offered three rows of seating and Dodge-style.

The success of the Grand Cherokee overshadowed Durango, and although it provided to seat up to 7 passengers and available HEMI power, it was far from engine performance.

In 2014, Dodge updated the Durango style to fit the new performance direction. The biggest engine you can get is the 5.7-liter HEMI V8.

The Grand Cherokee, which also gets a new look, continues to be an option for performance fans thanks to its 6.4-liter HEMI V8-powered Grand Cherokee SRT model in its stability.

In 2018, Dodge introduced the Durango SRT with a 6.4-liter HEMI V8 option and an updated front style. Now dubbed the “CHARGER SUV” by Dodge, the brand is trying to pull more performance credits from its muscle car lineup.

But satisfaction for Dodge customers didn’t last long, as two months later, the Jeep brand introduced the supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V8 Grand Cherokee Trackhawk.

Furthermore, Dodge continues to update its lower-level Durango model in Durango SRT style. Not having the Hellcat under the hood brought much attention to Durango as a more performance-based offering in the Chrysler Group lineup. It took two more years to make it happen.

For 2021, Dodge overhauls Durango. Provides an all-new instrument panel (I/P), new interior door panels, the latest infotainment technology, a revised front-end style, and a Hellcat engine.

The update seemed to keep people happy, and Durango’s sales have since continued to surge.

Wagoneer-based Durango will also help offer Stellantis’ customer base a much more affordable choice in the F-segment SUV market than Wagoneer’s more premium offerings and help reduce Wagoneer’s overall architecture costs.

While the new Dodge Hornet (GG) C-segment SUV will be much smaller than the current Durango when it launches to the market in 2023, it will also be the first Dodge vehicle the next generation Durango will adopt the soon-to-be-launched six-cylinder GME-T6 six-cylinder Wagoneer engine, which will be in the upcoming PHEV WS version.

This will allow the next Durango to offer PHEV and Dodge capabilities as other Stellantis brands move towards electrification across the range.

The Durango unibody currently sells for $32,962, excluding destination fees. The Wagoneer is $69,440 without taxes, full-size body-on-frame vehicles are in high demand, and body-on-frame cars are also more profitable than unibody. In other words, Durango would go up in price if Dodge developed a lower Wagoneer.

The 2024 Dodge Durango will be a full-size SUV

They were adopting a variety of Ram DT body-on-frame architecture for the next-generation Dodge Durango 2024, including increased towing capabilities, improved haulage capabilities, and more interior space.

By comparison, the Durango currently has a towing capacity of 8,700 pounds with a specific configuration, while the Jeep Wagoneer can pull up to 10,000 pounds on particular models.

This gives more capability to the SUV and allows Dodge fans to do more with their vehicles, such as towing the Dodge Challenger Mopar Drag Pak onto the strip with less effort.

The Durango SRT’s 6.4-liter V-8 delivers far more power than most people need in a three-row SUV. Durango SRT puts its power in a smooth linear mode. It’s also swift under heavy throttle.

The SUV’s sharp and communicative steering and rigid suspension do a commendable job disguising the Durango SRT’s weight and high center of gravity.

Passing rough stretches of road, driving away from padded cushions, a trade-off for performance-focused arrangements; The most aggressive track mode feels excruciating on all surfaces except the smoothest surfaces. But at least the Durango SRT could pull in 8,700 pounds.

The SRT is airy like the regular Durango but has standard sport leather seats, a second-row captain’s seat, and a flat steering wheel with a paddle shifter.

Both first and second-row passengers get heated seats; The front also looks at the vents. It’s not the most productive SUV out there.

Featured on the 10.1-inch touchscreen that stands out on the Durango SRT dashboard is a version of Fiat Chrysler Uconnect Dodge’s infotainment system.

The software responds sharply to input and is very user-friendly. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration and navigation are standard here, and drivers also benefit from real-time traffic and weather updates thanks to SiriusXM Travel Link.
